Semester One Projects:
Painting/Mixed Collage
The theme of my project was my friends. The girl/me under the umbrella is smiling and so is everyone in the pictures to create a happy or light hearted mood/feeling. The colors of the girl/me are bright and happy. The black and white of the pictures could create a gloomy emotion but I believe the pictures content prevents that from happening. The visual focus is on the girl/me under the umbrella. My painting is successful because it turned out the way I envisioned it.
Painting in the Style of Georgia O'Keeffe
The theme of this piece of art work is a close up of a flower, painted in the same style as Georgia O'Keeffe panted. The feeling of the piece is light and happy. The colors are very bright and joyful. As you look at it the eye is drawn to the center of the flower for that is where the most color is. I believe my painting is a success because I reached the goal of creating art work that resembled something Georgia O'Keeffe would have done and it actually turned out looking like a flower.
Social Conflict
For this project I had to find a social conflict problem and create a work of art showing my viewpoint on it. So, I found an article on judging people by the way they look. Then I portrayed my view point by drawing a picture of a hardened looking man with tattoos and piercings but he was holding his first born child and crying. Crying is a vulnerable show of emotion that you would not expect from a tough hardened man like the one I drew. I enjoyed drawing the tattoos on the man n my project. If I were to change something then I would probably change the medium I used.
This project related to me because I have been in many situations were someone has judged me by the way I looked just because I wore a dog collar for a while. My art work makes me feel happy for the man and his baby girl. The element of color draws you attention the the key points of the piece such as the tattoos, piercings and baby girl. Your eye is drawn to the baby because of the use of color and that's what focus on.

Community Outreach
For this project I got a picture of a girl form Nicaragua, I believe. I got to paint her and then send it back to her. Hopefully I'll get a picture of her holding the portrait in returne, if she's there to receive it that is. So I painted her in black and white acrylic paint. I really liked this project because I get to give something so cool to a girl I've never even met who is so far way. I wish I could wright to her as well though.
The mood of this project is just happiness believe because the girl is smiling and is so pretty. I think the value of her eyes are the strong element. I keep getting drawn back to her eyes because I believe that are her prettiest feature.

Mandy Budan
Mandy Budan is an abstract landscape painter, I really admire her work with acrylics. She uses the paint in a whole new way that I have never seen before. Budan had a fairly normal childhood, had some career choice changes, and she redefined the meaning of abstract art for me.
Mandy was born in Toronto in 1964. It’s interesting because Mandy didn’t always gravitate to the visual arts. In fact, she started out playing piano. Then in high school she started taking visual art classes and enjoyed thing such as painting, life drawing and photography. This is when she really started getting into the visual arts and contemplating different careers.
Originally, because of her piano background, she thought of becoming a pianist. But, the visual arts came out on top and she started to pursue the commercial arts. In the commercial arts she utilized wax paste ups, typesetting, stat cameras, and photoshop on her computer, which is all cool, but not what she really wanted. She got tired of having to create someone elses ideas; she wanted to let her own creative ideas flow. So she decided to go back to the creative arts and in 2011 she became a full time creative artist. This has made her very happy in life and now her artwork is all over; inspiring people.
She has taken my thoughts on abstract art and totally turned them around. When I hear abstract I normally think of paint being bumped on a canvas or colorful swirls of nondescript shapes; not normally my thing. But, when I saw Mandy Budan’s work I was blown way! The abstract part is the shapes and bright color she uses, but it comes together in such a way that it makes realistic forms very pleasing to the eye. It’s amazing to look at a small piece of her work and see all the little colorful swoops dips and shapes, and then to take a step back and see the big picture. Her work has the essence of something realistic but yet it doesn't’, it’s just so hard to describe. Mandy’s work definitely changed my perspective completely.
Mandy Budan, an acrylic abstract landscape painter from Canada; has totally inspired me. The way she uses the acrylic paint is just so different than I’ve ever seen before, it’s beautiful. I hope her work continues to inspire other artists the way it has inspired me.
